CONTEMPORARY ACCORDION

Contemporary Accordion is a comprehensive survey of styles for the accordion
written by Louis Giampetruzzi around 1980 and published by Oak Publications , a division of Music Sales Corporation
in 1981. The book includes transcriptions of various styles of music ranging from Irish, English and French Canadian
to Cajun, Zydeco and Texas Mexican border music and more. Solos from the playing of accordion greats such as Clifton
Chenier, Flaco Jimenez, John Handle and Philippe Bruneau to more esoteric selections such as the accordion playing
of "Leadbelly". The tunes range from easy to advanced with most falling somewhere into the middle.
Lou has recorded 10 tunes from this book on two CD's. The transcriptions
are NOT exactly as played because the music is somewhat improvisational, but they are fairly close and listening,
to supplement the book, is highly recommended.
