We have been writing songs for over 29 years. The songs span genre's as our musical interest developed and changed. This page will list many of our songs and has links to the lyrics. The table below lists many of our songs with links to the lyrics. Tree Tops is the affectionately named apartment in Brooklyn, NY where we lived and recorded many of the songs listed on this site. Those songs were recorded on home recording equipment such as the TEAC 3440 and TEAC 8 track Cassette deck with microphones, acoustic guitars, a Kurzweil K-1000 keyboard, a Proteus 1 sound module and a few sound effects and processors such as reverb. We started with Cakewalk sequencing software for DOS and the original tape stereo masters of these songs were transferred to digital using CAKEWALK PRO AUDIO 9 beginning 1999. We are in the process of recording our newer material using the digial medium.

THE LYRICS
LISTENING TO OTHERS
Its not always easy, black and white My mother taught me wrong from right But in these matters, what really matters is Our greatest strength is learning to forgive Jesse and Martin, Malcolm too All spoke words that ring so true Dreams and hope, a sense of urgency Fighting for their people to be free Friday's sins and Sunday's songs A cycle full of rights and wrongs Must we always judge our fellow man It's time for us to try to understand CHORUS Great songs try to teach us Of RESPECT and PEACE and LOVE To IMAGINE a better world for everyone But news of terror, hate and war Undermine, underscore The need, for us, to learn to live as one Our differences are few Although it seems like me and you Are miles and miles and miles and miles apart Listening to others My mother taught me oh so well The need, for us, to learn to live as one Kings and Queens have come and gone And left us here to carry on Side by side our church bells ring so loud Mosques and temples also stand so proud All around the world There are people fighting for their kind Our race, religion and language sometimes clash Can we leave these battles in the past Gandhi, Confusious and Lincoln too JFK and Sitting Bull All had visions of a better world Where truth and love and justice all prevail
CHAINS Of ANGER
It's Saturday night in the city 'round about a quarter to nine There's a woman in her bedroom window Trying to keep from crying She's looking out on the street But there ain't nobody out tonight And even if he comes back home There will be another terrible fight CHORUS Bound together by chains of anger Stronger than steel They haven't shared a warm embrace In what feels like a hundred years It's cold and dark by the water He's standing alone on the pier The pain of the words between them roars Louder then the wind in his ears He knows that he's got a bad temper But he puts a high value on pride So its one more angry storm to ride out And the hurtins as high as the tide CHORUS Tucked into bed in the back room A little boy fights not to cry But every time his dad threatens his mom He wishes his old man would die He's 10 goin on 100 His heart has been burned by their flames He longs for that TV show family Where life is all sweet fun and games CHORUS
THE CHILDREN OF THE GHETTO
The children of the ghetto, they aren't smiling any more The children of the ghetto, they aren't smiling any more Be it neglect, or famine, or war The children of the ghetto, they aren't smiling any more On the scales of justice On the scales of justice On the scales of justice How heavy is the pain Of the children of the ghetto Just look into their eyes They stare into the distance Will they ever feel love Only in the eyes, of the children, of the ghetto Can be found societies heart The children of the ghetto, they aren't smiling any more The children of the ghetto, they aren't smiling any more Be it neglect, or famine, or war The children of the ghetto, they aren't smiling any more On the scales of justice On the scales of justice On the scales of justice How heavy is the pain Of the children of the ghetto Where are the songs There is silence The voices of the children are not heard Only in the words, of the children, of the ghetto Can be found societies soul The children of the ghetto, they aren't smiling any more The children of the ghetto, they aren't smiling any more Be it neglect, or famine, or war The children of the ghetto, they aren't smiling any more Where are the smiles, where are the laughs (repeat and fade)
WHERE DO YOU GO (WHEN LOVE GOES WRONG)
She stood in the driveway watching him go In his second hand van headed for Mexico And turning the corner he was going, going, gone She went back in the house and put the coffee on The phone rang, she didn't pick it up Sat back, lit a cigarette, poured some cream into her cup And as the first tear rolled down her face She said to herself, I gotta get out of this place BRIDGE I thought our love was true I thought I'd be with you forever Forever and ever My dreams go up in smoke If there is any hope Tell me, Oh won't you tell me CHORUS Where do you go when love goes wrong, When you feel so weak and you need to be strong Can you stop the heart from breaking in two When it's pain, not love that's been making you Why does anyone fall in love What in the world are people thinking of Doesn't everybody have a friend whose had a broken heart Weren't you there when their world fell apart Over and over and over again, It's like swearing off the bottle then your drinking again Light a candle to your favorite saint You are what you are And you ain't what you ain't Repeat CHORUS She stood in the driveway watching him go In his second hand van headed for Mexico Turning the corner he was going, going, gone
LIFE GOES ON
Fire burns Tears flow Blood boils Life goes on With hand and pail And diesel truck With crane and barge They clean it up Take it away------- Take the pain away………….. Take the pain away The unborn child The waiting bride The naked grief We cannot hide The dying prayer The dying wish The benediction Of one last sweet kiss
THE DARKEST DAY
The darkness and the pain The sun don't shine at noon I want my old life back Without the doom and gloom The smell of smoke, the choking dust, the silence Where your heartbeat used to be I don't know how my God Thinks I can stand this pain I'm shot right through my heart I'm numb right through my brain The smell of smoke, the choking dust, the silence Where your heartbeat used to be A long, long time from now When all the world is free This time will buy its place In human history With pain and blood and trembling Within the lion's heart The devil left to dance on his own grave I want my old life back Without the gloom and doom I want my baby back Just sleeping in his room The smell of smoke, the choking dust, the silence Where your heartbeat used to be.
JOHNNY'S GONE
The break of dawn brought the bad news Johnnie's gone, Johnnie's gone, At first she thought I must be dreaming Then oh no, oh no The world turned dark The sky turned black And she fell to the ground And the breaking of her heart was the only sound CHOURS She was praying take me, oh Johnnie take me Cause I can't live without your love You gotta take me, come on and take me Johnny Cause I can't live without your love And then somewhere far away up in heaven An angel turned when he heard that sound And without hesitation Spread his wings and headed for the ground She lay down alone on their bed Through an open window a breeze began to blow Behind her eyes she saw a bright light In a color that she did not know But she could smell the sea And see the stars There was music everywhere And Johnnie's voice calling softly Darling, hold on, we're almost there
LOOKS LIKE ITS GONNA RAIN
I guess this old fire Its' about burnt out Looks like it's gonna rain Toss on just a few more twigs See if I can make it burn again The wind picks up And then it dies down The storm is coming in Toss on just a few more twigs See if I can make this fire burn again (CHORUS) Looks like it's gonna rain Looks like it's gonna rain Looks like it's gonna rain Lady luck she'll send you down Some rocky rugged trails Some hard times you may have Playing your guitar Singing sad songs Of a true love you once had Sometimes it takes a long while To make a fire burn But if you do It just might roar Toss on just a few more twigs See if I can make this fire burn again (CHORUS)

CRIMES OF THE HEART
One hearts' holding on One hearts' letting go Both of them pretending that it doesn't show Turning off that main road, there's no map They might get lost and never come back CHORUS Harmony and Ecstasy They walk hand and hand Salty tears and loneliness They fill the grandstand Every time somebody gives someone An untrue kiss, You'll find another heartache, Just like this One hearts beating faster One hearts beating slow One heart longs to stay at home And one heat longs to go Playing with emotions, Telling lies, Crimes of the heart are the serious kind SECOND CHORUS Poets, writers, troubadours It's their favorite theme Broken hearts of real life Broken hearts of dreams Movies, TV, video all document the fact But like a moth drawn to the flame, We can't hold back Harmony and ecstasy They walk hand in hand Salty tears and loneliness Fill the grandstand Every time somebody gives Someone an untrue kiss, You'll find another heartache, just like this
NOW IT'S TIME TO LET GO
They say you can't live on just memories They say you can't live off past times Memories always seem to make me smile For times as good as those I'll wait awhile (CHORUS) Love endures it will wait When the time is right we'll know Love endures it will wait for us Nows the time Now it's time to let go I'm in no hurry My heads on straight For the right companion I've got time I'll wait Rushing things can only bring confusion When your down Be wary of illusion (CHORUS) I've gone running from time to time So concerned with life passing by Forgettings hard But not as hard as leaving When wanting love It seems so out of reach (CHORUS)
LITTLE BIRD
Little bird, little bird Up in the tree I sit by my window And I wish I could be A little bird a little bird So wild and free Under a shady leaf Kissed by the summer breeze CHORUS You never wonder who you are If you should stay at home or wander You never worry if the clocks on time Every note is true, and it's sung in perfect time Little bird, little bird How far can you see Over the valley Down to the deep blue sea Little bird, little bird Whisper to me A secret for sharing One for just you and me REPEAT CHORUS I wish that we could sing a sweet duet Wish you knew my name But we haven't met So I'll be content with my treetop view And listen to your song While I sing along with you REPEAT CHORUS
THE LOVE IS REAL
Summer love it's over now It's time to pick up the pieces now They tell me I'll forget, but the pain is now It may all seem petty to you One day together The next we're through They tell me I'll forget, but the heartache is now (CHORUS) Its all in the way you feel That tells you if love is real Love is real Love is real It seems to happen every year August love I whisper in your ear The autumn brings September tears I loved you completely And then I was told Love is perfect, it's hard to hold (CHORUS) Springtimes coming Will my heart mend A new beginning Were lover and friend We walk along together Love is blind Love is cruel Experience teaches But people are fools We walk along together (CHORUS)

HE'S HARD BUT HELPLESS
He comes home from working Slams shut the door Speaking to no one Life is a war (BRIDGE) His muscle or his manhood Couldn't keep his heart from breaking His emotions their shattered His fury is shaken (CHORUS) He's lovin kind of man He's a hurtin kind of man Wants his girl to love him But he gets out of hand He's hard But when he's fallin in love He's helpless Won't ask your opinion He's afraid of the truth He'd rather control things He's afraid to lose (BRIDGE, CHORUS) He's hard but helpless He slammed down the phone She told him that tonight He'd be sleeping alone (BRIDGE, CHORUS)

THE STARS MAKE YOU WONDER
The world sometimes it treats me cruel Makes me feel just like a fool To tell you that I love you Tell you that I care, But you know it Care, But you know it (Chorus) Sittin on a hillside Lookin at the moon Suddenly I'm in tears my life is ruined Funny even when you know that your in love The stars make you wonder The stars make you wonder (Repeat Chorus) Lookin down at the fog in the lights Such a pleasant evening can also be a fright Life can play two way games on your mind And your heart (Repeat Chorus) Jealousy Treats me mean inside I get so mad that I can't hide But all it means Is that I love you With all of my heart
TORCH SONG
They used yo say it's over now Don't put up a fight Bow out like a lady Stay out of sight Don't rock the boat now And just lay down and cry Don't make waves for him And just lay down and die CHORUS Don't play me a torch song Something soft and sweet Don't try to sooth me I won't accept deafeat So you feel bad But you won't talk You'd rather turn your head And just walk But the tides have turned now I'm standing in the door I want you to explain to me What your leaving for REPEAT CHORUS You said I was unfaithful But you were too You couldn't accept me Cause I was like you I'll move from the door now And we can part Now that the story's straigh It won't break my heart REPEAT CHORUS

It's not always what you think It's not always the obvious This is not a movie It's not a book It's really us Don't jump to conclusions You could be wrong This is not a movie It's not a book It's really us (CHORUS) So we disagree You turn around Turn your head and go away Don't you think There's maybe a chance You should stay Stay Stay with me So things can't always be perfect Even if you want them to This is not a movie it's not a book Its a true lovers song (CHORUS)
TO HAVE AND HOLD
I have a piece of silk my daddy wove When he was very young My mother passed it on to me when I turned 21 I've got a rocking chair, a china dish, a clock with a wind-up key Land in the oldest part of town And a doll my grandma made for me CHORUS Oh the things we love to have and hold That keep us young when we grow old The fondest kind of memories That light the way so we can see A tender kind of melody I take a lot of comfort from old things Old music, old friends, old wine When we married we danced on the front lawn Like in my grandpa's time He had a barber shop down on Main Street In a picture he stands out front His arms are folded over his chest What he's thinking I cannot guess I want him to speak, but he hasn't yet I love him though we never met REPEAT CHORUS It's dusty down in the cellar But there are many treasures there I have to close my eyes and tell myself That daddy isn't there Standing at his workbench Fixing something for me A leather shoe or a book bag strap He was good with his hands and things like that He loved to sing "coming through the rye" When I hear that song it makes me cry Repeat CHORUS
TALK IT OVER The waves rush in, footprints in the sand Just fade away Just fade away like you did The sun is hot But the sea breeze cools me down But sweet thoughts of you remain (CHORUS) Lets talk, talk it over My thoughts say talk it over Just one more time Let's talk, talk it over My thoughts say talk it over Just one more time Let's talk, talk it over My thoughts say talk it over But now your gone The moonlight sines so brightly on the sea Does she think of me Or are these thoughts all mine The seagull glides And then she drifts and dives Then flies away Just flies away in the night Now I ride away My feelings have not changes Not changed at all I just hope for your return But tonight when I reach out in the night Just to hold you close All I'll hold Is my memories of you
LOVE AT CHRISTMAS TIME
PRELUDE When the calendar begins to say That winter time is on it's way We all know what time is near Cause Christmas comes just once a year and We'll have, they'll be, I want Cocoa and candy canes Snow-angel games and lots of jolly-holly Christmas candles and carols sung by friends Familiar voices fill the air and snowflakes falling everywhere Christmas cookies that Mommy bakes for me The song the redbird sings out from the old fir tree All the sights and sounds and sighs that mean it's Christmas time All the precious things that Christmas means to me. BRIDGE When the snow goes crunch 'cause it's so cold You'd swear an icicle has just replaced your nose And when your ears thaw out and feel like the're on fire Wet snow down in your boots makes you dream of warm and dry CHORUS The sweetest thing of all is still your kiss Take all the rest away that's what I'd really miss 'Cause we need love, love, love, love, love, love, love at Christmas time More love at Christmas time then any time of year The river is frozen end to end Round up some friends, for skating and for sledding Crackling fires, the fresh smell of the pines The taste of snowflakes on my tongue, can't wait for Christmas time to come Now its time, to pick the Christmas tree And place a shining star on top for all to see And we'll share love, love, love, love, love, love love at Christmas time More love at Christmas time then anytime of year BRIDGE Your finger please to help me tie this bow Kiss me quick I'm sure no one will know And please don't shake the presents 'neath the tree Except the one that's marked from "Santa Claus" especially for me REPEAT CHORUS
WE ALWAYS HELD TOGETHER
We've been together And we've been apart It was gonna be a rough time But we knew it from the start Now those rough times they seem easy Life has been good (CHORUS) We always held together and tried to make things work out As best as we could Don't you remember Those moonlight fights we had Moonlight for fightin' Now don't it seem sad All that precious times been wasted But now we'll make good (CHORUS) Now this is our beginning Would be some poor lovers end He'd be trying to patch up his broken heart In need of a friend We always thought of each other Kept each other in mind (CHORUS)

6:30 IN THE MORNING
At 6:30 in the morning At 6:30 in the morning At 6:30 in the morning Hear that morning bell ring (CHORUS) Oh the morning sun shines so bright Tells every workman its the end of the night Its the end of the peaceful night At 6:30 in the morning At 6:30 in the morning At 6:30 in the morning Hear that first train whistle blow (CHORUS) At 6:30 in the morning At 6:30 in the morning At 6:30 in the morning Hear that first box call roll by (CHORUS)
PLEASE DON'T LET THIS MOMENT SLIP BY
All I want to do Is hold you in my arms And tell you that I love you so But complications rise Let's forget about them now Please don't this moment slip by CHORUS Time and time again We fight and then make friends It seems like such a waste of time Life is full of moments Each one so important Please don't let this moment slip by Love makes no guarantees Not even for you and me It's promises and day by day But sometimes we are foolish And things get in the way Please don't let this moment slip by CHORUS Sometimes when I'm walking And your so far away I think of you and then I smile Life is full of moments Each one so important Please don' let this moment slip by
WAITING FOR LOVE
Days go by And nights I cry Holding on I don't know why You gave your reasons Told me no lies CHORUS Waiting for love Waiting for love Hurry up, I can't wait much longer Waiting for love I remember you smile I remember your eyes The way you touch me Feels so right A love like ours is hard to find CHORUS The talk around town Says your feeling down Your mind is cloudy Your emotions drowned No direction No perception CHORUS
WHAT'S YOUR LUCK IN LOVE
She said she'd meet me About sundown At the usual place, I'll be there on time But I know She might not show This could be another night, of waiting, here for you CHORUS What's your luck in love Will you spend the night alone Or will you dance the night away I hold you in my arms What's your luck in love Is she waiting there for you Or will she come tonight at all What's your luck in love BRIDGE I know there could be another I close my eyes I do not wish to see you in anothers arms Giving all your charms as I stand here alone It's quiet In the moonlight Sometimes I wonder why, I wait so long here, for you Oh the moonlight The stars shine brightly A perfect night for lovers a perfect night for me and you It's the morning I watch the sunrise
444 Mac ARTHUR AVENUE
There's a house full of memories for me and you At 444 MacArthur Avenue Built by your dad after world war 11 He circled the globe in his Navy blues In a house in Passaic, lived sweet Emily A child of the depression and frugality But the stars in the heavens were making their plans When they matched up your mother and dad CHORUS And you know and I know the power of love The more that you give love, The more that it grows The harder the task, there greater the risk The sweeter the taste of love The sweeter the taste of love I can't imagine how it would be Life in this world if there was no you for me A new constellation of our love as the plan Our stars will burn forever eternally glad REPEAT CHORUS
BECKY
Becky's gonna have a baby, Well how do you thing she feels Can she tell the world about it Or keep quiet, with her fears Can she tell it to her mom and dad Can she tell it to her boyfriend Guess she'll handle this one on her own She's just 17 and lives at home CHORUS Time to pay for that first big mistake Measure wheat you give and what you take Find out too late that its' sad but true Ain't it funny, what love can do to you Becky's crying in her bedroom, whispers on the telephone Got to find a way to end this, so sad and so all alone Now she's feeling trapped within her fears She prays to God but he don't seem to hear Knows they'd never live the scandal down Not in this nice suburban kind of town REPEAT CHORUS Becky's having an abortion out on the edge of town If your not 18 you can't get one less your parents come around So she gets infected from the blade spreads and spreads and she will not be saved Becky and her baby what a price to pay Dam the law that made it end this way CHORUS Becky died and went to heaven Or maybe she went to hell Everyone has an opinion, But who can really tell All I know is we are left behind With her story burned into our minds This songs for Becky and the many more Whose lack of choice will lead to death's front door REPEAT CHORUS
FLORIDA SONG
Every night getting ready for bed, she kisses his photograph 42 years of sharing his love, now it's all in her past Now she's along and she lies in the dark Gathers the pieces of her broken heart Prays for salvation and begs for a chance to be held in his arms Out on the street, head held up high, you wouldn't have a clue That someone so fragile, a veteran of life, still has so much fighting to do Days may be long but she gives them her best night is the time faith is put to the test Gathers her strength like a sergeant at arms she will fight to the death 6 AM call, I'm out of bed, booked on the morning flight She's making coffee and grapefruit for me, won't let me out of her sight Out on the runway I started to cry, just couldn't hold back the tears in my eyes 1200 miles is a long way to fly from someone that you love 10:45, we're touching down, welcome back to New York I never realized the runways rough edge, lies on the great salt marsh I know my husband is waiting for me, opens his arms and I'm home and I'm free But something inside me is hurting, I wish I could set that part free
